Puppy Vaccination Schedule: What You Need and When

Vaccinations are one of the most important things you can do for your puppy's health. Here's the standard schedule recommended by most UK and Irish veterinarians, based on WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) and BSAVA (British Small Animal Veterinary Association) guidelines.

Core vs. Non-Core Vaccines

Core vaccines are recommended for all dogs regardless of lifestyle: Distemper, Parvovirus, and Adenovirus (hepatitis). Non-core vaccines are given based on lifestyle and risk: Leptospirosis (strongly recommended in the UK and Ireland due to environmental exposure), Bordetella (kennel cough — essential for any dog that visits dog parks, groomers, or boarding), and Parainfluenza. Note: Rabies vaccination is not routinely required for pet dogs in the UK or Ireland — it is only needed if you plan to travel abroad with your dog.

6–8 Weeks

DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) — first dose. This is typically administered before the puppy goes home. Your Pupnex puppy arrives with their complete vaccination records.

10–12 Weeks

DHPP — second dose. Bordetella (if not already given). This is typically your puppy's first vet visit in their new home. Your vet will also perform a full physical exam.

14–16 Weeks

DHPP — third dose (final in puppy series). Rabies — first dose (legally required in most states). Leptospirosis if recommended by your vet based on your geographic area and lifestyle.

12–16 Months

DHPP booster. Rabies booster (1-year or 3-year depending on product used and local law). After this, most adult dogs move to a 3-year DHPP booster schedule.
