Companionship and coat care

Shih Tzus are companion dogs that still need daily walks, play and gradual alone-time training. A long coat needs frequent care or a practical trim. Introduce brushing and handling gently, and supervise children rather than assuming a small dog accepts all attention.

Breathing, eyes and veterinary planning

Discuss flat-faced breathing and heat concerns, eye health, dental care and relevant parent screening with your vet. Noise or difficulty during normal breathing should not be dismissed as a breed trait. Plan exercise for the individual dog and avoid overheating.

General care information, not an individual veterinary assessment. Ask your own vet to interpret health records.
